Synopsis: Lagrangial methods of analysis, generalised forces, modal mass, stiffness and damping. Moving loads on structures. Constrained load synthesis. Equations of motion for rectangular plates, solution techniques and beam function approaches. Use of frequency parameters for engineering solutions. FEA of plates and numerical methods for solution to transient problems. Modal analysis of structures employing FFT analysers and modal analysis software. Machine condition monitoring from vibration analysis.
Assessment: Examinations: 70% + Assignment, laboratory and tutorials: 30%.
