6 points + Three 1-hour lectures and one 1-hour support class per week + First semester + Clayton, Malaysia + Prerequisites: VCE Mathematical Methods units 3 and 4 + Prohibitions: GAS1601, GAS1613, GAS1614, GAS1631 or GAS1641

Synopsis: Vectors and matrices: vector algebra, the concept of vector space, matrix algebra, matrix inversion methods, application to linear systems. Calculus: real functions, limits and continuity, derivatives and basic integration methods, solution of elementary optimisation problems. Probability and statistics: elementary probability theory, random variables, probability distributions, expected value, mean and variance, introduction to statistical inference.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 85% + Assignments: 15%
