Synopsis: Introduction to the study of linguistics and to the skills necessary for the analysis of language with a focus on the development and presentation of logical arguments in relation to the analysis of language data. Topics include phonetics, phonology, semantics, pragmatics, crosscultural communication, language policy and educational linguistics.

Assessment: Written assignments (3500 words): 55% + Exam (1 hour): 40% + Tutorial participation: 5%
