Synopsis: Students will gain an understanding of the contemporary Japanese political economy, its fundamental characteristics and major issues including contending perspectives on the Japanese /economic miracle,0 and industrial policy.

Assessment: Written (4500 words): 50% + Seminar participation (1500 words): 10% + Test (3 hours): 40%
