6 points + 5 hours per week + Second semester + Clayton + Peninsula + Prerequisites: JPL1210 or equivalent

Synopsis: This subject aims to develop lower intermediate competence in spoken and written Japanese. Students successfully completing this subject should be able to express opinions and conjecture; report the words of others; give and ask advise using the conditional form; use the causative and passive causative forms of verbs; describe physical symptoms; use the honorific forms of common verbs; use the vocabulary and expressions required in a job interview; read and reply to formal invitations written in Japanese; read graphs and statistics written in Japanese and recognise an additional 170 kanji (in total 500).

Assessment: Final examination (1.5 hours): 50% + Speaking test: 10% + Listening comprehension test: 10% + Ongoing assessment: 30%
