Synopsis: How Japanese is acquired as a second or foreign language and the factors affecting acquisition. Issues including reading development, language distance, and developmental processes, transfer, pragmatics, and input and interaction. First language acquisition of Japanese and methodology employed in studying Japanese language acquisition.

Assessment: 8 points - Two essays (2000 words each): 40% each + Test (2 hours): 20%. 12 points - Two essays (3500 words each): 40% each + Test (2 hours): 20%
