Synopsis: Communication in native situations. Japanese language contact and language change in an Australian context. Theoretical approaches to studies of languages in contact, including network analysis, transference, code-switching and bilingualism.

Assessment: 8 points - Essay (3500 words): 60% + Review (2500 words): 40%. 12 points - Essay (5000 words): 60% + Literature review (4000 words): 40%
