Synopsis: This subject introduces students to a wide range of electronic information sources available from WWW, online host services and CD-ROMs, and how they may be used to support enduser requirements and an organisation0s activities. Sources covered include statistical, economic and financial sources, electronic newspapers and journals, and geographic information systems, and printed materials. Also covered are searching strategies; delivery mechanisms; critical evaluation of different services; the notion of value-added information products; awareness and assessment of user needs.

Assessment: Examination (40%) + Project work/group discussions (35%) + Practical exercises (25%).
