Mechanics for industrial design

(A&D)

3 points + One 1-hour lecture and one 1-hour tutorial and 4 independent study hours per week + Second semester + Caulfield + Prerequisites: IDE1808

Synopsis: Fundamentals of mechanics applied to consumer products, including loads and forces; Newton0s Law, actions, reactions and equilibrium; components of a structure and free body diagrams; loading effects, tension, compression and bending; properties of sections, area, centre of area and centroid; stability of solid objects, overturning and sliding. Lectures and tutorials include problem solving sessions and case studies.

Assessment: Progressive weekly assignments: 50% + Examination: 50%
