History of Australian Feminism

Synopsis: Subject explores the multiple meanings of the term /Australian feminism0 by examining a range of Australian ideas, organisations and activities which have been concerned with the interests of women. It looks at the history and development of ideas about women and women's organisations.It will examine the differing ways concepts of /nation0 and /Australian0 have been developed and used; the changing meanings associated with the terms /women0 and /feminist0 and the ways in which questions of class and race have been involved in understandings of /Australian feminism0. It also looks at ways in which women have attempted to represent themselves in cultural, literary and political terms.

Assessment: Tutorial reports 15% + written tutorial exercises (1,000 words) 20% + Relevant research essay, (3,000 words) 40% + Exam 1 hour 25%
