Synopsis: The subject explores the ways sociological knowledge can be used to understand contemporary environmental issues. Analytical frameworks are drawn from a study of traditional and contemporary sociological theory. These frameworks will be applied to specific local, national and international contexts through the analysis of environmental issues. Topics include social movement theory and protest movements in defence of nature and animal rights.

Assessment: Two assignments (2000 words each): 30% each + Examination (2 hours) or case study (2500 words): 40%
