Synopsis: The position of children in the social structure of Australian society. Institutions that shape the experience of childhood. Current social concerns about the position of children. Gender socialisation,. Children0s position within the family and the society. Theories of parenting. Children0s rights.

Assessment: Assignment (1800 words): 30% + Seminar presentation or group project (equivalent to 1800 words): 30% + Theoretical essay (2400 words): 40%
