Sociology of race and ethnic relations

Synopsis: A study of social relations between racial and ethnic groups in selected societies, especially the place of ethnic and Aboriginal groups in Australia. Concepts of race, racism, ethnicity, prejudice, discrimination and multiculturalism will be discussed in detail. How and why racism developed in Australian society and how it is expressed in contemporary Australian society will be covered.

Assessment: Assignment one (1800 words): 30% + Assignment two (2200 words): 40% + Examination (2 hours): 30%
