Associate Professor Greg Houseman

6 points + Two 1-hour lectures and one 3-hour practical per week + 12 weeks lecture/practical coursework + First semester + Clayton + Prohibitions: GPS3011, GPS3022

Synopsis: This unit provides an introduction to reflection seismology, an important exploration technique used in the petroleum and mineral exploration industries. It includes a study of seismic wave propagation, time series analysis, and the processing and interpretation of seismic data. Variations in geologic structure and the evolution of sedimentary basin will be described as an aid to interpretation.

Assessment: Practical work/assignments: 40% + Examination (3 hours): 60%
