Synopsis: Students will learn current geographical understandings of culture as a process made up of everyday beliefs, languages and practices through which people come to understand their world. It will show cultural processes do not just happen in, but create spaces, places, landscapes, regions and environments. It will show how spaces and places produce and reproduce cultural processes. Linkages will be made to policy. The first section provides an understanding of the evolution of this field within geography. The second section explains foundational concepts. The three remaining sections cover major areas of concern to cultural geographers.
Assessment: Essay (2500 words): 30% + Two tutorial papers (1000 words each): 20% each + Examination (1.5 hours) 30%
