Synopsis: This subject encourages students to examine the communities within which they live, to understand the factors which create and differentiate communities in terms of particular social, cultural economic, and demographic characteristics, and to appreciate the way in which a variety of forces for change have quite different impacts on individual communities. A particular emphasis will be placed on the restructuring of society and space in terms of work, social relationships, leisure, and life style.
Assessment: Written (2500 words): 30% + Literature review (500 words): 10% + Field report (1000 words): 30% + Examination (2 hours): 30%
