Synopsis: Recent advances in molecular genetics and genetic engineering. Topics covered include methods of DNA and gene manipulation, the analysis of gene structure and function, and the principles of developmental genetics. Applications of genetics in medical, agricultural and industrial biotechnology. Recombinant DNA techniques, transgenic technology, DNA sequencing and gene expression in higher eukaryotes.

Assessment: Written (2500 words): 15% + Examinations (3 hours): 50% + Practical work: 35%
