Synopsis: Introduction to fluid properties. Fluid statics: pressure forces on submerged surfaces. Concepts of fluid flow: the equation of continuity, conservation of energy; viscous effects, Reynolds experiment, laminar and turbulent flow. Friction flow and pipes, friction factor, application of Bernoulli0s equation with friction and with addition and extraction of energy. Uniform flow in open channels. The boundary layer concept, boundary layer separation: drag and lift. Compressible flow.

Assessment: Examination: 70% + Laboratory and assignments: 30%
