Synopsis: Introduction to database systems.The relational data model & DBMS record structures.Relational algebra, advanced features of relational model.DB design techniques:entity relationship (ER) modeling, normalization, Database Design Language (DBDL).Alternative data models:CODASYL model, Hierarchical model.Physical DB design.Relational query languages, SQL, Oracle SQL*Plus, embedded SQL using Java (JSQL).DB dministration, security.Transaction management, concurrency control, Query execution.DB recovery.Overview of distributed DB systems and object oriented DB systems.Access to the university's computer systems through an Internet service provider is compulsory for distance education students.
