Synopsis: This subject concerns the more significant laws and regulatory systems impinging upon the undertaking and commercialisation of biotechnology. It will begin with a brief grounding in the Australian legal system, then consider the legislation and regulatory schemes which may most affect workers in this area. This would include those laws and regulations with respect to: the sourcing of raw materials used in biotechnology; assisted human reproduction; field testing of the outcomes of biotechnology; the sale of the outcomes of biotechnology (GM food), therapeutic goods administration and the national registration scheme for agricultural and veterinary chemicals.
Assessment: Take-home exam:70% + On-line participation:30%
