Synopsis: An introduction to representations of women in the context of social history. Themes include adultery, images of the prostitute, the figure of the femme fatale, gender and social class. The course will raise questions concerning narrative strategies, psychoanalytic theory and feminist criticism.

Assessment: Two short class presentations (1000 words each): 40% + Class test (2 hours): 20% + Essay (2000 words): 40%
