Synopsis: An introduction to the study of spoken French. A linguistic overview. Phonetics, analysing the actual sounds of French, their production, articulatory description, and phonetic transcription. Phonemics, focusing on the systematic organisation and distinctive features of the French sound system.

Assessment: Tutorial quizzes: 20% + Mid-term phonetics test: 30% + Final class test (2 hours): 50%
