Synopsis: A comparative study of the institutions and development of the EC countries since the Second World War. The major themes will include the effects of World War Two; problems of reconstruction; the Cold War; the forces which have driven the continent towards unification; the early problems of the quest for integration; forms of government; and the success (or failure) of the original goal of promoting /an ever-closer union among the peoples of Europe.0
