Synopsis: Resonant power converters, PWM inverters, voltage-source and current-source inverters. Cycloconverters. Variable-frequency inverter drives for AC machine control, vector-controlled drives. Stepper motor control. Four-quadrant phase-controlled DC machine drives, chopper control of DC motors, brushless DC machines. Harmonics in machine drive systems. Power converter technology in computing systems. Computer uninterruptible power supplies. Switch-mode power conversion in telecommunications.
Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 60% + Continual assessment and laboratory work: 40%
