Synopsis: Epidemiological methods for investigating the factors involved in the spread of diseases in populations. The microbiology of food, water and air, and biotic influences on health. Ways of assessing biological hazards. Chemical and physical hazards. Preventive measures and control procedures. Issues including occupational health, global warming and public health, and the response of society to environmental health concerns.
Assessment: Journal article critique: 20%; + Practical work and fieldwork: 30%; + Written assignment (2000 words): 20% + Examination (2 hours): 30%
