Learning Music: Current research issues

Synopsis: In this subject there will be an investigation of selected topics from recent research relating to learning music. Students will consider : learning theories and their application to music education; the nature of creativity in music and its educational implications; issues of giftedness and talent in music education; and critiques of recent arguments for transfer effects between music learning and other fields

Assessment: Web-based tasks (40%) based on the distance education material in which students will explore current music education research + Essay of 4,000 words (60%). Students will discuss one of the significant issues in music education identified in this subject. The topic will be chosen after consultation with the lecturers
