Synopsis: Characteristics of different varieties of English (eg Singaporean English and Australian English for international communication), focusing on their relation to cultural knowledge and pragmatics. Students practise information access strategies and use multimedia for their own language learning. The subject focuses on real-world language use relevant to the student group (eg language of commerce, early childhood teaching, vocational language teaching, instruction giving).
Assessment: Reflective journal (2000-3000 words): 30% + Oral presentation (1500 words): 50% + Proficiency test or written portfolio (2000-3000 words): 50%
