Methods and practices of teaching outdoor education

12 points, Full-year, Gippsland and Clayton campuses by Distance, prerequisites: the equivalent of one year full-time (48 pts) at tertiary level in approved outdoor recreation/education studies

Synopsis: This method subject aims to prepare students to teach outdoor education both in the field and in the classroom. The philosophy, history, development and contemporary status of outdoor education will be examined with a focus on the educational, practical preparation of lessons, unit planning and organisation for teaching and trip planning. The curriculum focus of the VCE outdoor education study design, VET sport and recreation certificate II, and the CSF will be examined and relevant curriculum issues will be examined ie. resources, staffing, gender, equity and timetabling

Assessment: Journal (2000 words): 25%, report (1500 words): 15%, minor project (1500 words),: 15%, Program profile (1750 words): 20%, essay (2000 words): 25%, and satisfactory completion of practicum
