Synopsis: The focus of this subject is on the practical application of current theories of language acquisition to the teaching of English as a second language. Students learn to assess the language needs of English as a second language (ESL) learners and use a variety of different approaches to develop their own materials and teaching activities to meet the diverse language, cultural and educational needs of ESL learners. Students complete a profile of an ESL class, a case study of an ESL learner and develop and evaluate a unit of work focused on the needs of a group of ESL learners with whom they have been working.
