Synopsis: This subject will address issues in art and music in primary schooling The subject provides guidance and workshops about children's art and explores visual art activities and art appreciation suitable for primary children. In the music component students will discuss rationales, program development and evaluation in music. Students will participate in workshops that explore classroom music making, utilizing a range of educational approaches. Students will extend their evaluative and teaching skills and develop an understanding of the role of the teacher in schooling.
Assessment: Written assignment on music education: 20%. Practical instrumental test: 30%. Presentation of art works resulting from practical workshop activities: 50%. Hurdle requirements (1) to teach three Visual Art or Media Studies lessons during an appropriate practicum; and (2) attendance at all composition workshops.
