Synopsis: This subject introduces students to the major influences on children's language and literacy development with a focus on the importance of establishing a partnership between the home and the school in this development. The subject will examine relevant theoretical models and derived approaches in the teaching of English as well as to relate this study to practical implementation in educational settings. The role of the English curriculum as a fundamental Key Learning Area, including the place of learning technologies relating to English and the Victorian Early Years Literacy program, will be highlighted.

Assessment: Written assignment (2000 words): 40% + Group written report (2000 words) and oral presentation: 60%
