6 points + Full-year + Peninsula + 3 hours per week lecture and tutorial time, plus 3 hours independent study

Synopsis: This subject develops knowledge, skills and attitudes about teaching and learning in primary school mathematics. Topics will include children's mathematical development in early number concepts, written and mental computation, estimation, fractions and decimals, measurement, space, and chance and data, providing opportunity for students to develop their personal confidence and competence in mathematics. Focus will be given to the teaching of problem solving and the use of information technology in the context of mathematics (e.g. appropriate software, video, calculator use). Students will explore a range of classroom teaching models and assessment strategies.

Assessment: Written report on observational mathematical tasks undertaken by children (2000 words): 25% + Examination at the end of first semester: 25%): Report on the development and implementation of a series of mathematics lessons based on a real-life context (2000 words): 25% + Examination at the end of second semester: 50%
