The teacher as a researcher

6 points + 2 hours per week + First semester + Clayton, Peninsula + Prerequisite: Completion of 3 years of tertiary study

Synopsis: This subject includes methods for conducting teacher research and issues associated with undertaking research in teaching and learning in the range of settings that impact on student learning. Students will examine how their research findings can be used to help improve educational outcomes. Students will research classrooms and other settings in order to better understand how practice influences learning, and the development of teacher knowledge through a teacher as researcher approach. Students will see how research by teachers in their own classrooms (and other settings) can improve understanding of teaching and learning through a teacher's work in both formal and informal contexts.

Assessment: Folio of research tasks (3000 words maximum): 60% + Research proposal (2000 words) and a seminar presentation: 40%
