Synopsis: This subject has been designed for students who wish to experience and gain an understanding of some of Australia's unique wilderness environments. The educational setting for most of this subject will be on fieldtrips in wilderness locations. Topics will include: Historical perspectives of the relationship between humans and nature; the contributions of education to understanding the natural environment; psycho-evolutionary theory; the nature of wilderness and its influence on human behaviour ; aesthetic responses to the natural world.
Assessment: Class paper presented orally (equivalent to 1000 words): 10% + Written work (3000 words): 90%
