Synopsis: The subject will cover a broad range of applications of mechanical principles to biological problems. Properties of biological materials will be studied, including bone, ligaments, cartilage, muscle and blood. This knowledge will be applied to biological structures, particularly joints and the circulatory system, and will culminate in a study of whole body performance, including the kinematics, kinetics and energetics of locomotion.

Assessment: Examination (3 hours): 70% + Project work: 30%
