Synopsis: This subject provides a comprehensive summary of the generation of lymphocyte repertoires and of immune regulation. In the development of B lymphocyte repertoires, the selection of B cells and the genertion of B cell heterogeneity will be covered. The role of the thymus in the development of T lymphocyte repertoires will include detail on T cell receptor gene rearrangements and of positive and negative selection of T cells. Topics concerning mechanisms of immunoregulation will include tolerance to self antigens, regulation of immune responses by cytokines, and manipulation of the immune response by drug treatment.
