Synopsis: Major areas to be covered include: An overview of current trauma assessment and treatment literature and cumulative traumatic experiences intrinsic to Aboriginal people. An understanding of how culture interacts with Aboriginal clients' responses to the psychiatric culture (which, in turn, affects how their behaviours are interpreted). Techniques in using existing diagnostic criteria (i.e. DSM-IV) while assisting a reliable cultural review.
Assessment: Journal focusing on ethics in trauma assessment: 20% + Two case studies with oral presentation: 50% + Role play with video session in class: 30%
