Wireless and Personal Communications Systems

Synopsis: Overview of of wireless and personal communications systems, the market and technology trends and evolution; Second generation digital cellular radio systems (IS-136, GSM, IS-95); Cordless telephony system standards (DECT, CT-2, Spread Spectrum); Multiple access system fundamentals - (TDMA, CDMA etc); Wireless LANs (RF and Infrared, 802.11, Hiperlan, Bluetooth); Medium Access Control protocols for wireless systems (CSMA/CA, NPMA); Network management for wireless and personal communications systems; Security and privacy issues for wireless and personal communications systems. Security systems (MIN/ESN, SSD, Token-based secret key systems, Public key systems).

Assessment: Two assignments: 25% + Final examination: 75%
