Synopsis: Accounts of the relationships between art, culture and society in the two main waves of western Marxist theorising. The first developed in the aftermath of the First World War and the social crises of the interwar period; and the second as a critique of advanced capitalism from the 1960s onwards.

Assessment: Two seminar papers (1500 words each) + Essay (6000 words)
