Synopsis: Introduction to networks. Structure and genealogy of the internet and the world wide web. Navigating the web. Hypermedia. Information retrieval. SGML and HTML. Elements of web pages. Manipulating text. Use of graphics. Audio and video. Basic principles of human-computer interaction. Elements of visual design. Processing of web forms. Clients communicating with server applications. Writing applications for the client end, communication with server scripts and databases for processing. Issues in platform-independent client applications. Legal and ethical considerations of web-based applications. Data security in web applications.
