Synopsis: Knowledge facilitating the expansion of specialised practice roles for the anaesthetic nurse in areas such as pain management, preoperative assessment of patients and management of day surgery. The subject will draw upon concepts to examine pre, intra and post-operative care of critically ill patients undergoing anaesthesia in a variety of contexts. Patients with spinal injuries or burns are examples of high risk patients which call upon the nurse to have specialised knowledge to provide optimal care during anaesthesia.
Assessment: Clinical portfolio (3000 words; Master of Nursing level 5000 words): 50% + Clinical performance appraisal: 50%
