Synopsis: Concepts, principles and strategies for providing therapeutic nursing care for the ill and/or premature neonate and their family. Prematurity, or problematic adaptation to extra-uterine life, and consequential pathophysiological processes. Nursing assessment, intervention and evaluation skills essential to providing supportive care in the neonatal unit. Neonatal resuscitation and stabilisation, respiratory pathophysiology, assisted ventilation, thermoregulation, and principles of neonatal fluid balance and nutrition.
