Synopsis: The history and philosophy of midwifery, relevant professional issues, models of care and their relationship to childbirth and health care. Applied anatomy and physiology in relation to midwifery practice. Students explore female reproductive anatomy and physiology in relation to fertility, conception, genetic inheritance and pre-conception care. Students also examine the development of the embryo/fetus and initial adaption to extrauterine life.
