Synopsis: Matrix analysis of structural systems involving basic finite truss, beam and frame elements in two and three dimensions; derivation and use of non-prismatic element stiffness matrices; data storage and computer analysis verification. Dynamics of structural response, free and forced vibration; elasto-plastic response; impulses; earthquake; Duhamel integral; step by step integration; multi-mass system eigen value solution. Introduction to structural stability; classical derivation of bifurcation load, buckling of elastic columns, effective length; frame stability; buckling programs, column design curves and web buckling.
Assessment: Examinations (3 hours): 60% + Workshop and laboratory work: 40%
