Synopsis: The concepts of design lifecycle. Design for durability, strength, serviceability, stability and fire. The Building Code of Australia. Loadings. Timber material properties. Stress Grading system. Strength, deflections and stability. Masonry, types by brick type and construction form (unreinforced and reinforced), design methods for unreinforced walls subject to vertical loads and bending action.

Assessment: Examination (2 hours): 50% + Practical/project work: 50%
