(ENG)

4 points + 26 hours lectures and tutorials + First semester + Clayton, Malaysia

Synopsis: Energy targets: Composite curves; problem table algorithm; grand composite curves; placement of utilities. Capital cost targeting: Area; number of units and capital cost targets; capital energy trade-offs. Pinch design principles and methods: Grid diagram; CP rules; design for maximum energy recovery. Automated design: Block decomposition; network pinch for retrofit; topology changes to overcome the network pinch. Integration of heat engines and heat pumps: use of the grand composite curve for sizing cycles. Integration of reactors and separators: Distillation columns and evaporators. Process changes: Plus-minus principle. Extraction of data from process flowsheets.
