6 points + 5 hours per week + First semester + Peninsula + Prerequisites: VCE Chinese + CSL or equivalent. Recognition of characters in /Practical Chinese reader I0 assumed (required to sit for a placement test to determine Chinese language proficiency) + Prohibitions: Pass in first language stream of VCE Chinese

Synopsis: Intermediate level spoken and written Chinese; intermediate level readings; readings (in English) on Chinese current affairs. Regular classroom activities will be supplemented through use of audiovisual materials to strengthen listening and reading skills.

Assessment: Weekly homework exercises: 10% + Monthly diary: 5% Speaking/oral presentation in class: 10% + Performance in tutorials: 5% + Oral test: 15% + Written tests (2 mid-semester tests): 10% Final exam: 40% + Regular short dictation: 5%
