6 points + One 2-hour lecture and one 1-hour tutorial/laboratory session per week + Second semester, Clayton + Prerequisites: A second-year business systems or first-year computer science subject + Prohibitions: CSC3151, SFT1122, SFT2205 + Note: Not available to students in the Bachelor of Business Systems degree

Synopsis: Fundamentals of commercial programming. The semantics and syntax of COBOL. Modern programming methodologies including structured programming, top-down code development and testing. Common batch processing tasks including report generation, control break processing, sequential and non-sequential master file updating and table processing.

Assessment: Programming assignment: 25% + Examination (2 hours): 75% + Students must pass the examination in order to pass the subject.
