Synopsis: Introduction to health services sector legal obligations, the common law duty of care, consent,professional liability, criminal law aspects, fiduciary duty, contractual liability, relevant tort law and alternative dispute resolution and access to records. Health and other relevant legislation. Legal implications of medical research: human reproduction, reproductive technology, human tissue, dying and death. Administrative and policy issues of the employment relationship relevant to the health sector staffing, including employment contracts and associated obligations, anti-discrimination law, health and safety law, environmental law, due diligence and termination of employment.

Assessment: Two research assignments (5000 words): 50% each
