Synopsis: This subject deals with the structure and function of plants at different levels of organisation from the sub-cellular to the whole plant. We first discuss plant anatomy and structural adaptations of plants to different environments, then cover processes important in plant growth and development; cell structure, cell and tissue expansion and the formation of specialised tissues. The link between structure and function of plants is stressed throughout. Aspects of plant function and physiology include nutrient and water uptake and transport; gas exchange and assimilation processes and how plant function, plant growth and plant form are modified by interactions with the environment.
